Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 – DREAMS Focus: Black History Month

This week in DREAMS, our focus was Black History Month. We explored the lives of two inspirational Black women who have made a lasting impact on the world.

First, we learnt about Celeste, a talented, award-winning singer and songwriter who inspires and empowers others through her music. We listened to her moving song “Hear My Voice” and reflected on how important it is for everyone to have a voice, and the confidence and freedom to use it.

Next, we were inspired by Rosa Parks, the incredible civil rights activist whom our Year 2 class is proudly named after. We discovered how her bravery and determination helped change history, and we agreed that she truly represents all of our DREAMS values.

To bring her story to life, the children created their very own Rosa Parks and bus models to help remember and re-enact her courageous stand for equality.

💫 It’s been a wonderful week of learning, creativity, and inspiration!
