How to Apply

Applying to study at St. Francis' College.

Deciding on the right school for your child is very important, and we are here to guide you through the process. St. Francis’ College is an academically selective school. Our selection process is designed to identify pupils who are able to benefit from our balanced and well-rounded education and to make a positive contribution towards the life of the College. The aim of the process is to identify potential.

As one of top independent schools in the country we are looking for pupils with a genuine interest in education in the broadest sense and with interests that stretch beyond the confines of the academic curriculum. St. Francis’ has strong traditions in art, dance, drama, music and sport and we offer many enrichment activities, all of which are important in developing a well-balanced and confident individual.

Entry Points

The usual points of entry for the Preparatory Department are from 3 years of age for Nursery or 4 years of age for Reception, and at 7 years of age for Year 3. For the Senior School usual points of entry are at 11+ for Year 7, 13+ for Year 9 and 16+ for Year 12. Occasionally, we may also have places at other ages. Please contact Admissions for details.

Application process

The first stage in the process is to register your interest in the school with the Registrar. We very much hope that you and your child will visit St. Francis’ College. We hold Open Mornings in the Autumn and Spring Terms, which give a general introduction to the College. We are also very happy to welcome prospective parents and their children at other times on a personalised basis. Please contact the Registrar on +44 (0)1462 670511, or by email to admissions@st-francis.herts.sch.uk to arrange a visit.

To be considered for admission, prospective pupils must first be registered and pay a non-refundable Application Fee of £100. To complete this process, please follow this link and complete all the details on the Registration Form.

Prospective pupils must pass the College entrance examinations (relevant to their age) and undergo and interview with a member of our Senior Leadership Team. The College must also receive a satisfactory report from the pupil’s current school.

All children interested in joining are offered the opportunity to have a taster day. This can be before or after they have applied to join.

Entrance exams are held in the January prior to the student joining. Examinations are held in Maths, English and non-verbal reasoning. All applicants will have a short informal interview with a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Deferred entry will be offered to successful candidates in Year 6 who wish to remain at their current school until joining the College in Year 9. The offer will be dependent on the pupil making good progress in Years 7 and 8 and the College receiving a satisfactory report from their Head prior to joining.

Offer letters will be sent to successful applications by the February half term.

We are always happy to answer any questions about joining St. Francis College and please contact the Registrar on 01462 670511 or e-mail admissions@st-francis.herts.sch.uk
