Former Pupil Meets Sir Mo Farah

Former Pupil Meets Sir Mo Farah

We are delighted to share this from our former pupil, Gemma Kirby.

I attended St Francis' from 1990 to 1997 as a boarder and have fond memories of my time there, particularly in relation to the sporting opportunities and teaching staff. I studied Biology at the Univeristy of Bath, before embarking on a career in forensic science which led to my interest in criminal investigations. I currently work for the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority who protect vulnerable workers from exploitation and investigate reports of labour exploitation and modern slavery.

It was an honour to be nominated in the Anti-Slavery Day Awards 2022 statutory services category. I didn't win but met Sir Mo Farah and spent the evening in Speaker's House at the House of Commons celebrating the efforts of those in the media, charities and law enforcement in raising awareness and fighting modern slavery in the UK.

I would urge everyone to learn to spot the signs of modern slavery, how to report potential cases to law enforcement and how some simple conscious consumer choices can make a difference:
