St. Francis' College pupil Jemima Hewitt has been awarded a coveted business design honour. Datasound Laboratories Ltd. announced the winner of its inaugural Design Academy 2023 award at the weekend. Jemima commented: "I entered this competition because I am passionate about technology and the environment, so I wanted to invent an electrical product that can help the environment. My invention, ‘The Recycling Crusher’ is part of solving plastic pollution and stopping recycling going into people’s general waste for landfill".
Hundreds of entrants from a host of local schools and colleges were whittled down to 10 finalists who presented their idea at the final event and responded to questions from the panel of judges. Each entry was marked against four attributes (originality, thoroughness, feasibility and presentation). Jemima was presented with both an iPad for herself and £500 of design and technology equipment for St. Francis' College.
