Bacteria overload?!

March 29, 2019

For two weeks, the Prep VI girls have visited our senior school Biology labs as part of their topic work on Microbiology.  Their enthusiasm and knowledge for the subject was fantastic and they were an absolute pleasure to work with.  Firstly, the girls swabbed four areas of the lab and used the swabs to inoculate a nutrient agar plate.  They then waited excitedly for a week to view all the different bacteria they had cultured.  There was a host of different shapes, colours and sizes from tiny yellow colonies to large feather-like white colonies. They found that their shoes contained the most bacteria, although the desk and keyboard came a close second.  Their pencil cases were relatively bacteria-free.
