Head's Welcome

Heads Welcome

I wanted to write to welcome everybody into our St. Francis’ community. Whilst many students, parents and staff are returning to us after simply being away for the summer, we do have a high number of new members arriving this week. In fact, several students joining our Boarding House arrived yesterday! I, alongside my Senior Leadership Team, introduced ourselves to them and their parents and I was moved by the excitement and enthusiasm everyone was showing to joining our community. I would like to say an enormous thank you to the Boarding team who have worked tirelessly to get the House ready for them. It looks fantastic!

It was an absolute pleasure to meet and welcome the new Year 7 students, including those who did not come up from the Prep Department, in our beautiful Chapel Service this morning. Dr Ryan led a thought provoking and uplifting service, cumulating in students receiving their entry certificates. In my comments, I said to the students that as I start my new role as Head today, I could fully understand their nerves and apprehension. I said that they were an extra-special year group as my first Year 7 cohort. I cannot wait to meet the other year groups, in both Prep and Senior, who will also be my “first” of that year group. I also hear that the Year 12s, who are also joining our community today (many of those are our excellent GCSE cohort who achieved the College’s best results) alongside several new students had a wonderful time punting in Cambridge. Mrs Scott, also new in her role as Head of Sixth Form, has said that she thinks that our new Year 12s are going to be fantastic. Sixth Form is the pinnacle of your school experience and I have no doubt that this cohort will make the best of it, especially in support of our Sixth Form Centre redevelopment.

Tomorrow, I welcome all the other year groups in the Prep Department and Senior School and spend time with them in our first assembly. I am deeply honoured and proud to be their Head. I will reassure them that everything that I do in my time in this role will be driven by what is in their best interests and the interest of the College. I hope that the students are as excited about returning as I am.

In addition to welcoming students, I also looking forward to welcoming parents – whether new or returning – on our New Academic Year Induction Evenings. I sent out a letter on Tuesday to all parents with a reminder of the dates and times; however, it is not too late to find out more information by contacting Year 7 and Sixth Form have their evening today! We are hitting the ground running.

There are several new staff who have been inducted into the College over the last week. I am excited by the immense range of talent, experience, enthusiasm and energy that they will all bring. Along with excellent skills and abilities, they are all vocally supportive of my vision of modernising the College whilst maintaining what makes us special: those deep, purposeful relationships, our commitment to every child and achieving excellent outcomes.

So, in closing, I welcome every member of our community to a fast-paced, transformative, and exciting year.
