Senior - Curriculum

Years 7 -9 provide the introduction to the Senior School. The girls, aged 11-14 are offered a broad, balanced curriculum based on the National Curriculum but with opportunities for further study in a number of areas. Small classes ensure each girl receives individual attention.

Assessment takes place on a regular basis, with homework every evening, twice-yearly reports and formal examinations set in each subject at the end of the year. Girls' progress is closely monitored by subject staff and Form Tutors.

At the end of Year 9, GCSE subjects are chosen, after careful consultation between members of staff, pupils and parents.

Years 10 -11. Having made GCSE choices, the girls focus on their subjects. However this is not a narrow curriculum as most girls study 10 subjects at GCSE level. These include a number of core subjects taken by all girls and others selected to reflect individual interests and abilities. We aim to ensure that girls have a balanced programme of study without premature specialisation.

Assessment takes place on a regular basis, with homework every evening, twice-yearly reports and formal examinations set in each subject at the end of the year. Girls' progress is closely monitored by subject staff and Form Tutors.

In the Sixth Form, students have more freedom to pursue studies in their own way and in their own time. We expect most girls to take at least three A-level subjects and to achieve the grades required by the best universities.

A programme of Life Skills runs in parallel with the academic programme. This, together with the various extra curricular activities on offer, is designed to broaden students' awareness of the world around them and to prepare them for university and life beyond school.
