Physical Education is an important and successful part of the life of St. Francis’ College. The girls have four lessons a week. In addition the girls also have the opportunity to participate in sport as an extra curricular activity, to play on an inter house basis or in local and county competitions.
We offer Physical Education both at GCSE and A Level.
We aim to create an environment in which every pupil can laugh, enjoy, engage and develop a genuine passion for physical activity. An environment where they are challenged, experience success and have the opportunity to play representative sport in its many forms. We aim to support every pupil in their very personal journey towards fulfilling their potential and becoming the best that they can be. In doing so we instill key core values that transcend just pure sporting ability in the quest to becoming a better sportswoman and a better individual. These are: Courage, Determination, Equality, Excellence, Friendship, Inspiration and Respect.
Our broad based curriculum and extra curricular activity schedule provides pupils variety increasing the likelihood that they will choose to remain active and healthy in the future. Activities offered include but are not limited to: athletics, basketball, body conditioning, cross country, dance, gymnastics, fitness, football, netball, hockey, power-walking, pop lacrosse, rounders, self-defence, squash, swimming, table-tennis, tennis, volleyball, yoga.
We also supplement our physical education programme with a number of day trips and sports tours which have included the likes of watching the Mavericks play super league netball, a day trip to Wimbledon, a ski trip to Jay Peak in the USA and a tennis camp in Mallorca.
