University Applications Programme
The University Applications Programme starts in the second half of the Spring Term with advice on how to choose a course and start planning an application. At the start of the Summer Term we hold a meeting for all Year 12 Parents which gives a run through of the process from start to finish and offers an opportunity to ask any questions. The powerpoint from this year’s meeting is available to download via the link on the right. Here you can also find a links to a number of factsheets on student finance.
In late June we hold a University Applications morning, during which students are issued with their initial predicted grades, are shown how to log on to UCAS Apply (the online system through which they will apply to university) and given a brief workshop on Personal Statement writing. In addition, the College Librarian, shows the students the various resources available in the library.
Students are then left to get on with the business of attending Open Days and drafting Personal Statements ready to make a prompt start on finalising their applications early in the Autumn Term. Weekly after-school UCAS workshops are held in the Sixth Form IT suite to help students complete their UCAS forms with close guidance from members of the Sixth Form Team.
Once applications are sent, the Sixth Form Team are ready to help advise and support the students whatever the outcome. We make sure students are provided with regular reminders of deadlines to reply to offers, information on post-offer Open Days and sources of information on student finance. Our PSHE programme helps prepare students for life outside the College, looking at issues such as personal safety, online security and living on a budget.
Our aim above all is for our students to leave St. Francis’ College prepared and ready to embark upon the next stage of their life, whether it’s a university degree or a move straight into the world of work.
