Head's Welcome

St. Francis’ College is an amazing place to be. The School makes you feel warm and welcome, and the teachers are so enthusiastic about their teaching. Every day I just can’t help but smile when I walk into school.

Mr James Nichols – Head

Mr Nichols’ teaching career has been predominantly spent in girls’ schools. Before joining St. Francis’ he was fortunate to work in schools where he benefitted from the broadest range of academic, pastoral and organisational leadership experiences. In addition to teaching (Modern History & Politics), he was previously the founder and director of a political education foundation which helps schools embed the values of democracy and political participation into the curriculum. Outside of school he is an avid reader, political junkie, jetsetter and foodie.

Welcome to St. Francis’ College

I am delighted that you have taken time to find out a little bit more about us.

St. Francis’ College is a vibrant, warm, and friendly community where relationships (and dreams) really matter. We are extremely proud of the meaningful relationships that exist between students, their teachers and our parent body. It is the power of these relationships which produces students who are to achieve extraordinary academic outcomes, but also who are well-rounded, gifted in several areas and who enter the world as confident, kind and determined individuals.

We are a diverse and inclusive community where students are taught the importance of kindness, tolerance, and respect for themselves, for others and for their learning. We welcome families of all faiths and of no faith.

As the Head of an all-through day and boarding College, the most powerful emotion that I feel is pride. Watching students who join us in their earliest years grow, mature, and develop into amazing young adults as they finish the Sixth Form is moving. Upon departure in Year 13, so many students tell me the stories and memories of their many years at the College. Having a nursery as part of our community only strengthens this further and many students benefit from the seamless education we’re able to offer from Nursery to Sixth Form.

So, whether you are looking at our website as a prospective parent or a current parent, we encourage you to come into the College and meet our superb staff and outstanding pupils. This really is the best way to see what we are all about and how we transform children into young adults, well-equipped to make the most of their futures, whatever they hold. You are welcome to attend our Open Days, Meet the Head mornings or drop us a line (admissions@st-francis.herts.sch.uk) to arrange a personalised tour.
